Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Oscar for Best Actor at 2016 Academy Awards

February 28, 2016

It had become the albatross of Hollywood. The most prestigious award ceremony in performance arts could not be talked about without bringing it up; Leonardo DiCaprio had never won an Oscar. Now, all that has changed.

On Sunday, February 28, 2016, Leonardo DiCaprio won the most highly-coveted award a male actor can win as he took home the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role as Hugh Glass in The Revenant.

Prior to his long-overdue win, DiCaprio had received five Academy Award nominations: three for Best Actor and one each for Best Supporting Actor and Best Picture (as a producer). He had also racked up 11 Golden Globe nominations, including three Best Actor victories, the most recent win for The Revenant.

As the years went by and DiCaprio was never immortalized with that iconic golden statuette, the pressure rose. With his first Oscar win in the books, the albatross has at last been lifted.
