Tubi Appoints Sameer Balgi as CFO 

 

SAN FRANCISCO, November 9, 2023 – Tubi (www.tubi.tv), Fox Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) ad-supported video-on-demand service, today announced that Sameer Balgi has been appointed Chief Financial Officer, effective November 6, 2023. Balgi joins as Tubi continues its momentum as the #1 AVOD player and most watched free ad-supported TV streaming service in the U.S. 

 

Balgi joins Tubi from Amazon, where he was most recently CFO of Freevee and head of finance for Prime Video’s US Marketplace business including Digital Store and Prime Video Channels. In his new role, Balgi will be responsible for Tubi’s financial strategy and operations globally, and will be focused on maximizing the impact and efficiency of the company’s investments to drive scalable growth and market leadership.

Balgi is a global finance leader with nearly two decades of experience in media and technology. He began his tenure at Amazon in Amazon Music transitioning the business from transactional (mp3) to Streaming with the launch of Prime Music and subsequently Amazon Music Unlimited. He went on to hold several roles in Amazon Advertising across Sales Finance and Amazon Analytics before transitioning to CFO of FreeVee in addition to ownership of Ads finance for broader OTT, Audio and Device Advertising. Prior to Amazon, Balgi spent six years at Procter & Gamble leading global strategy and upstream innovation planning to deliver growth on the Skin Care and Personal Care Portfolio. Earlier in his career, Balgi worked in a consulting company focused on network redesign, product lifecycle management and more.

STREAMING PARTNERSHIP 

Tubi Elevates Sports Offering with Live Games Available Exclusively on The Platform via “NBA G League TV” 

First Game on Tubi Tips Off Nov. 10 with G League Ignite 

Taking on the Ontario Clippers 

 

SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK, November 8, 2023Tubi, Fox Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) ad-supported video-on-demand service, and the NBA G League, the NBA’s official development league, today announced a multi-year partnership to make NBA G League games available on Tubi. The partnership tips off with NBA G League Ignite vs. Ontario Clippers game at 10 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 10. As part of the collaboration, an array of live exclusive G League games and real-time coverage of rising, influential players via a new FAST Channel will be available on Tubi Game Days: “NBA G League TV”. 

 

“We are thrilled to team up with the NBA G League for over 75 exciting match-ups and unbelievable moments from the game’s breakout emerging players,” said Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi. “Bringing together the G League’s next generation of stars and our young and highly engaged audience is another dynamic step in our sports content strategy.”

 

“We are excited to further expand access and deepen engagement with our fans through this partnership with Tubi,” said NBA G League Chief Operating Officer Portia Archer. “The G League is filled with tomorrow’s NBA stars and we can’t wait for Tubi’s audience to experience the elite competition and exceptional talent in our league.”

 

NBA G League TV will feature more than 75 live games each season, including more than a dozen G League Ignite games and select G League Playoff games, all available exclusively on Tubi. Each Friday and Saturday throughout the season, NBA G League TV will air a doubleheader, offering fans four exclusive live games per weekend, in addition to a wide array of all-access behind-the-scenes content, original series, studio programming, classic games and highlights. The channel will be available for 48 hours on Fridays and Saturdays for Tubi Game Days, beginning every Friday at 9:00 a.m. ET

 

Tubi will have big games, filled with rising stars and fan-favorite teams, including (schedule subject to change)

 

  • Friday, Nov. 17: Santa Cruz Warriors vs G League Ignite
  • Saturday, Dec. 12: Windy City Bulls vs Wisconsin Herd
  • Friday, Jan. 19: G League Ignite vs Mexico City Capitanes
  • Saturday, Feb. 10: Delaware Blue Coats vs Austin Spurs 
  • Friday, March 29: South Bay Lakers vs Mexico City Capitanes
  • April 2024: First Round and Conference Semifinals of the NBA G League Playoffs

 

The NBA G League is a proven developer of NBA talent while also acting as the league’s research and development laboratory, testing out innovative rules now used at the NBA level, including the Coach’s Challenge and the 14-second shot-clock reset rule. A record 50 percent of players on 2023-24 NBA opening night rosters had G League experience and eight current NBA head coaches spent time honing their craft in the G League.

Connection, Culture and Community: Tubi’s Growing Affinity Among HBCU Students 

SAN FRANCISCO, November 6, 2023 – Tubi (www.tubi.tv) today unveiled streaming habits of HBCU students including a growing affinity for the most watched free TV streaming service in the U.S. In a survey fielded in September, Tubi stood out as a cultural beacon and a primary choice as a platform of preference for both content discovery and viewing with 75% of HBCU students prioritizing the service for entertainment. 

The findings underscore a transformative shift to free ad supported streaming television, with Tubi emerging as a top choice for HBCU students, reflecting its commitment to authenticity, relatability, and accessibility. The survey, conducted from September 21st to September 29th, 2023 by Sage Outcomes, found it’s not just about finding a platform to stream favorite shows or movies; it’s about finding a platform that understands the audience, resonates with their experiences, and mirrors their narratives

Key points from the survey findings included:

  • Free & Unique Programming: 75% of HBCU students prioritize Tubi for its free streaming model and its vast catalog. 42% of respondents said Tubi has content that other platforms do not have (42%).
  • Word of Mouth: Many students tune in to Tubi content based on recommendations from peers (39%).
  • Power of Personalization: More than half of students find content on Tubi through personalized recommendations.
  • Bridging Legacies: Black Greek life narratives resonate deeply with over 60% of students involved in these communities and gravitate toward content that relates to their lived experiences.
  • Cultural and Authentic Connection: Tubi’s content offerings are tailored to the HBCU experience that tend to over-index on nostalgic classics that are among daily culturally trending conversations and humor, with 54% of HBCU students favoring comedy content on Tubi.
  • Streaming Habits: Nearly 50% of HBCU students engage with TV content several times a week, with 40% tuning in daily.
  • Device Versatility: A significant majority of students prefer streaming Tubi on TVs (57%), followed closely by smartphones (54%).
  • Communal Consumption: While 35% of HBCU students enjoy watching Tubi solo, 40% opt for a shared experience with roommates or dorm mates.
  • Relax & Engage: A soothing 72% of students turn to Tubi for relaxation post a hectic day, while 42% remain actively engrossed.

Focused on a Veteran Owned Restaurant 

SAN FRANCISCO, November 6, 2023 – Tubi (www.tubi.tv), Fox Corporation’s ad-supported video-on-demand service, will premiere a special episode of KITCHEN COMMANDO, sponsored by USAA on Veterans Day. The November 11th episode will see former US Army Master Sergeant and White House Chef, Chef Andre Rush, take on the mission to try and save a struggling veteran owned restaurant.

In this emotional and powerful Veterans Day special, the greenhorn owners of “Neighbors Bar & Grill” in Broadlands, Virginia are determined to make their restaurant work even as they may be merely days away from having to close their doors. Chef Rush steps in to try and revive their restaurant, but his most lasting impact may be reminding this veteran owner of the power of teamwork and how his veteran community is there to embrace him in hard times.

SAN FRANCISCO, October 24, 2023 – Tubi (www.tubi.tv), Fox Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) ad-supported video-on-demand service, today announced the company has expanded its content offering in Canada with the launch of over 40 FAST Channels including CrimeTime, Kartoon Channel, Midsomer Murders, MrBeast, PGA Tour and more. The new linear experience complements Tubi’s vast video-on-demand catalog that exceeds 150,000 movies and TV episodes including over 140 Tubi Originals providing viewers with the opportunity to go deep into content they love no matter how unique their interests and obsessions are. 

In addition to the new linear channels coming to the service in Canada – Tubi is always launching new titles to deepen its library offering. Coming soon the content pipeline are “John Wick,” “John Wick 2,” and “Saw” in October; “The Equalizer,” and “The DaVinci Code” movie trilogy in November; and “The Men in Black” franchise in December amongst many others.

Tubi’s New Beta Feature, Rabbit AI, Offers Viewers a New Way to Discover Content

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 26, 2023 – Tubi (www.tubi.tv), Fox Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) ad-supported video-on-demand service, has announced Rabbit AI, a first-of-its-kind mobile feature powered by ChatGPT-4 that offers viewers a new way to navigate the platform and discover movies and TV shows. With the world’s largest content library, Tubi offers viewers the opportunity to go deep on their obsessions and Rabbit AI will help people get more of the content they want.

 

Rabbit AI allows viewers to go beyond simple keyword searches and ask questions the same way you’d ask a friend. To resolve a debate over what to watch, input “shark movies that are funny” into Rabbit AI and receive a list of relevant titles. Or if you’ve recently stumbled upon an obsession with Anime, a question may look like “find me Anime that features shonen friendships.” Viewers can save the results onto My List, allowing them to easily find their newly discovered content across all their devices. Search history will be saved within the feature so viewers can return to past results easily.

“One in five streamers binge watch because it’s convenient or easier than searching for another show as time spent looking is usually a mix of scrolling, maybe bickering over whether to watch a comedy or a horror movie,” said Blake Bassett, Senior Director of Product at Tubi. “At Tubi we’re uniquely situated to find content for viewers that’s specific to the moment they’re in because of our large library and our personalization and machine learning algorithms. With Rabbit AI we’re making the content discovery experience fun again.”

This new feature builds upon Tubi’s current suite of content discovery tools that create a seamless experience for those who watch a wide variety of genres and subgenres. Tubi’s platform learns what you like through a series of viewer-driven signals, including saving content to My List, liking or disliking titles or watching TV shows or movies. Tubi uses those signals to craft a home screen that is uniquely yours, adapting to your preferences and recommending a selection of content inspired by your interests. Over time, containers available on the home screen will populate with more personalized recommendations, like having Hitchcock movies added to your Thriller container after an evening of watching classic films.

The power of ChatGPT-4 and Tubi’s deep library of over 200,000 movies and TV episodes leads to results that unearth unique titles from the catalog, providing hyper-personalized recommendations based on the contextual meaning of the terms. When content surfaced by Rabbit AI is saved onto My List or watched, Tubi’s home screen will surface similar content onto viewers’ home screens.

Rabbit AI will begin rolling out as a beta test to Tubi’s iOS mobile app for viewers across the U.S. starting today, becoming widely available in the coming weeks. The Rabbit AI plugin for ChatGPT will be available soon on OpenAI for subscribers.

SAN FRANCISCO; September 14, 2023 – Tubi (www.tubi.tv), Fox Corporation’s (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) ad-supported video-on-demand service, today announced the debut of an all-new brand campaign, Just Keep Going, which includes four short commercials, out-of-home in New York City and spots geared towards die-hard football fans. The campaign, co-created by Tubi’s creative agency of record Mischief @ No Fixed Address, highlights that the things you love on Tubi…just keep going, no matter how strange or specific, from romcoms featuring heartthrob lifeguards and musicals with prolonged dance scenes, to crime dramas with conspicuous boats and sitcoms where the quirky neighbor gets the laugh.

“There is no shortage of content available these days and many people are overwhelmed with choice but what’s unique about Tubi is you can continue to watch the obscure things you love without ever getting that empty feeling like you’ve reached the end of your favorite series,” said Nicole Parlapiano, Chief Marketing Officer, Tubi. “This campaign is an homage to and celebration of our passionate viewers and their individual tastes, and with it, we are aiming to meet them where they are in a contextually relevant way whether it be watching their favorite football team on Sunday or riding the subway in New York City.”

Each film in the campaign spotlights different genres on Tubi with an element that seemingly never ends and culminates with Tubi’s call to action for viewers to “find their rabbit hole.” The out-of-home placements across New York City illustrate genres on Tubi, from British murder mysteries to cult classics, with a visual style that also just keeps going. The campaign will live on social media through Tubi’s mischievous and unexpected real-time and reactive social approach via GIFs, clips and more, as well as through a user generated content (UGC) platform with popular creators tailoring their personal brands to showcase how Tubi’s library just keeps going and going, and what that means to them. 

Carl Peterson, creative director at Mischief, said, “In our first big consumer campaign post Super Bowl, we wanted to show that Tubi doesn’t just scratch the surface of different genres and subgenres, but that you can actually go really deep on them. Like, if you’re really into crime dramas about narcos, Tubi has days worth instead of just a few hours worth. Tubi has also created a series of over a dozen ads targeted towards football fans for the 2023 season which will run nationally and in local markets. Building off of its ‘Interface Interruption’ Super Bowl promo, these ads open on announcers discussing several teams including the “Cowboys,” “Bears,” and “Jets,” only to reveal clips of cowboys in a western film, bears in a nature documentary, fighter pilots in an action movie and more.

Tubi reaches 1.4% of total TV viewing time according to Nielsen’s July 2023 The Gauge report, further cementing its leadership as the No. 1 AVOD player and most watched free ad-supported TV streaming service in the U.S.
